O & K, the couple whose wedding I would be painting, contacted me many months in advance to have me capture this unique moment in their lives with my brushes—specifically, to create a live painting of their wedding in Marseille (or, more precisely, Cassis). Nadeige Branger’s fantastic wedding planning agency is handling the organization of the wedding.
Originally from the Paris region, they first held their civil wedding at a town hall in Paris before deciding to host a secular ceremony in the south of France—in Cassis, right near Marseille. 👰🤵
Paris is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, but choosing Marseille as a wedding venue—and having a live painting to capture the moment by the sea—is easy to understand! ☀️
Working in the wedding industry allows me to constantly discover stunning new locations! The venues selected by the bride and groom are chosen with great care—much to my delight! 😊
They chose the Château de Cassis, located 35 minutes from Marseille. This historic site is a fortress dating back to medieval times; its origins go all the way back to the 5th century! Over the centuries, the castle was owned or occupied by a succession of families, counts, religious figures, and military leaders, undergoing numerous architectural changes along the way. In the 15th century, around 50 houses and 250 people lived within the castle walls! It has a turbulent history, right up until it became a private property in the late 19th century.
But let’s get back to the bride and groom—and their live wedding painting!
You might be discovering the concept of live wedding painting for the first time and wondering how it works—well, you’ve come to the right place!
First, before the wedding day, the couple chooses which moment of the day I will paint. They also decide how many people will be depicted in the painting.
O&K chose a live painting that would capture their secular ceremony, featuring the sea view in the background, along with the witnesses and guests in the first two rows (essentially the couple’s immediate family).
So, I arrive well before the ceremony begins and start sketching the background in pencil.

Later in the evening, I move to a different area and continue my live painting by the pool.

Since there were so many details and figures to paint, I didn’t have time to finish the painting on the wedding day itself. So, I took the live wedding painting back to my studio in Marseille to complete it.
