A birthday immortalized with a live painting!
I mostly paint live at weddings, and I travel all over France to paint my brides and grooms. This time, I stayed on the Côte d’Azur, near Cannes, and created a live painting for a birthday party! The happy birthday girl chose the magnificent Château de Castellaras, in Mouans-Sartoux, 10km from Cannes, to blow out her candles.
The sumptuous Château de Castellaras, Cannes

This splendid medieval residence is located on the heights of Cannes. The sea view is incredible: you can admire a 180° view, from Antibes to Nice. There is a special charm once you are inside the castle. The furniture, the tapestries, the frescoes, all the interior decoration looks period.
The Live Painting Concept
But let’s get back to Mrs. R.’s birthday! She had chosen my live painting services for her birthday party. She really liked the concept of having an artist who paints live in front of her guests.
Her choice of live painting focused on several moments: I had to paint different parts of the evening, the venue of course, but also the cocktail hour, the musicians, the dinner, the various planned entertainment, and the cake of course!
When the weather isn’t good… and I have to paint outside!
A major problem when we arrived at the chateau in the afternoon: a thunderstorm was bearing down on us, with strong winds and torrential rain… And the birthday party was, of course, planned to be held outside…
The weather forecast predicted a clearing in the late afternoon and evening…
We waited…
Peter, the event planner at Riviera Organisation, remained calm and finally decided to set up the cocktail reception on the outdoor terrace, the meal inside, and the cake on the terrace as well.
The rain stopped, the wind gradually pushed the clouds away, and the sun reappeared 🙂
Live painting begins in the late afternoon
I can finally begin my live painting! I go down to the magnificent garden and trace the first lines of the medieval castle.

Then the evening begins, and the guests are welcomed by a young woman in a champagne dress (I love it!).
The cocktail reception takes place on the castle terrace. The sea view through the arcades is absolutely charming.
The guests, while sipping a glass of champagne, enjoy a live band.

Dinner time approaches, and the guests head to the reception room inside the castle. The imposing fireplace and wrought iron chandeliers set the tone for the medieval interior decor.

After the meal, another musical performance from the band got the guests dancing.
The guests then headed out onto the terrace for the rest of the evening.
Dancers dressed in sparkling outfits, made of mirror mosaics, accompanied the arrival of the cake.

What a beautiful birthday evening!
And here’s the painting, once the live painting was finished, which perfectly sums up the entire evening!

And you, what is the next event you would like to have in live painting?
