Live painting – Wedding in Provence, France

Three Artistic Entertainments During the Same Wedding: Live Portrait, Live Painting, and Wedding Book!

I have been a live wedding painter in France since 2016, and this was the first and only time that a client ordered me to provide three artistic entertainments during the same wedding! An ambitious challenge!

I was first contacted by Aurelie ROUSSIE, the wedding planner from Love & Provence, for a wedding taking place in Orgon, in Provence (South of France). She was looking for a live painter, and I was initially supposed to paint one or two live scenes. However, when the future newlyweds saw my previous live wedding paintings and watercolor wedding books, they decided they wanted both!

Then came the “Welcome Dinner” party, during which I was supposed to paint live portraits of the guests…

Live Portraits of Guests

Original Entertainment for Wedding Guests

It was Friday, the day before the wedding. The bride and groom had organized a Welcome Dinner for their loved ones who had traveled from far away. Chloe and Christopher, both originally from England, currently live in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates. However, they absolutely wanted to get married in Provence, one of the most beautiful places in France.

The guests arrived gradually for the welcome cocktail.

I set up and started drawing couples.

Each guest left with their own small live-painted watercolor portrait—a lovely keepsake from this beautiful wedding in Provence!

Live Painting of the Secular Ceremony

The Different Steps of a Live Painting During a Wedding Ceremony

Saturday arrived—the Big Day!

I set up my easel early in the afternoon to begin sketching the landscape on my canvas.

Once the guests were seated, the secular ceremony began. This was the most intense moment for me—I had to capture as many guests as possible in my drawing during the short duration of the ceremony!

At this stage, the guests were still, which gave me the perfect opportunity to outline them. This is what my drawing looked like once the ceremony was over.

As guests toasted the happiness of the newlyweds and moved to the dinner area, I started adding color.

Chloe and Christopher came to see the progress of my painting.

I took advantage of the last daylight to paint the landscape before bringing my easel into the reception hall.

Throughout the evening, my painting evolved. The guests frequently stopped by to see their figures taking shape on the canvas. They always found it amusing to recognize themselves in the artwork!

And here is the final result, after some finishing touches in my studio.

The Wedding Book: A Watercolor Album of Wedding Highlights

An Original Album to Remember the Wedding Day

Since I painted live on the wedding day, I also created this wedding book using photographs taken by Oliver Fly, the official wedding photographer.

The entire wedding took place in a stunning Provençal mas—Le Mas de la Rose in Orgon.

It was the perfect venue for this English couple who dreamed of getting married in the heart of Provence, surrounded by historic stone buildings, lavender fields, and olive trees.

The bride and groom prepared separately: Chloe with her mother, and Christopher with his father.

The ceremony began as Chloe’s father walked her down the aisle to her future husband.

Under the watchful eye of Brian, the couple’s beloved dog, the bride and groom exchanged their vows.

Then, it was time to toast to the happiness of the newlyweds!

Speeches, the Wedding Cake, and the First Dance

The time came for speeches, and Christopher’s words were particularly moving as he declared his love for his wife in front of an audience with teary eyes.

Finally, the wedding cake was brought in, followed by the highly anticipated first dance.

And the radiant bride danced joyfully with her friends.

A Unique Memory of an Unforgettable Wedding

And that’s how Chloe and Christopher got married in Provence, keeping truly exceptional memories of their wedding, thanks to my paintings!
